SEARCY – No. 11 Southern Arkansas defeated No. 24 Harding in both games of a Great American Conference doubleheader Saturday at Jerry Moore Field. The Muleriders won the opener 2-1 and took game two 12-1.
Harding fell to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the GAC. Southern Arkansas is 15-3 overall and 9-0 in conference.
The Bisons are back in action Tuesday in a nonconference game at Union in Jackson, Tennessee. Harding's next conference action is March 8-9 at Arkansas-Monticello.
In the opener, Michael Dewald had the first of his two hits and came around to score on a wild pitch. A two-run homer from Southern Arkansas in the sixth inning gave the Muleriders the victory.
Davis Welch (3-1) pitched a complete game for the Bisons, allowing only three hits and striking out seven.
Southern Arkansas scored 10 of its 12 runs in game two in the first three innings.
Sebastian Martinez drove in Jensen Presley with Harding's run in the bottom of the third inning.
Will Roguske (1-1) started and took the loss for the Bisons. Preston Tabor was strong out of the bullpen, pitching two hitless innings and striking out two.
