Lacey Launch Lifts Harding in Game One; Northwestern Wins Game Two

SEARCY – Harding and Northwestern Oklahoma split a Great American Conference doubleheader Saturday at Jerry Moore Field. Logan Lacey blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Bisons a 7-6 win in the opener, and the Rangers erased a three-run deficit to win game two 5-4.

Harding's record stands at 19-10 overall and 12-6 in the GAC. The Bisons are part of a four-way tie for first place in the conference standings. Northwestern Oklahoma is 20-11 overall and 11-7 in conference.

Harding held a 6-1 lead in the opener, but Northwestern Oklahoma scored four in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie the game.

In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Lacey launched his first home run of the season over the left field wall for the game winner.

Michael Dewald hit a three-run homer in the fourth, his fifth of the season, and Coulton Doyle had a two-run double in the fifth.

Davis Welch was again outstanding on the mound for the Bisons. He allowed only one earned run in 6.1 innings and struck out eight. It was his eighth consecutive start allowing three earned runs or fewer and dropped his team-leading ERA to 2.16.

Javier Lobo (2-1) got the last out of the ninth to earn the win.

Harding scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth in game two. Lacey had a two-run double, and Sebastian Martinez hit a two-run homer, his sixth of the season.

The Bisons could not hold the lead, however. The Rangers scored one in the third and three in the fourth, and Harding did not score again after the first.

Lacey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in game two.

Lobo was again strong for the Bisons out of the pen in game two. He pitched three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts, entering in the fifth after Merritt Jay (3-3) pitched the first four innings.

Harding is next scheduled to play Tuesday against Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee.
