Dewald Delivers in Bisons' Doubleheader Sweep of Southeastern

SEARCY – Harding senior Michael Dewald played a crucial role on Saturday, delivering five hits to propel the Bisons to a doubleheader sweep against Southeastern Oklahoma, concluding a three-game Great American Conference series at Jerry Moore Field.

In the opener, Harding secured a 7-3 victory, followed by a 5-3 win in the second game, where the sixth inning proved pivotal in both contests. With these victories, the Bisons elevated their overall record to 25-14, with an 18-9 standing in the GAC. Currently, Harding trails GAC leader Arkansas Tech by a single game and shares second place with Arkansas-Monticello in the conference standings.

Harding's schedule for the week includes five games, beginning with home games against the University of the Ozarks on Monday at 3 p.m. and Union (TN) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The weekend agenda features a three-game GAC series against East Central in Ada, Oklahoma.

In the sixth inning of the first game, Harding broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run rally. Dewald initiated the scoring with a single to center, driving in Nathan Bowie. Coulton Doyle contributed with a ground out, bringing home Dewald, while Sawyer Price's single scored Cooper Newsom to extend the lead. Harding sealed the victory with Drew McNeel scoring on Bowie's single in the seventh inning.

On the pitching front, Davis Welch (5-3) delivered a stellar performance, pitching six innings and setting a career-high with nine strikeouts. Javier Lobo secured his first save, pitching three innings and facing just one over the minimum while striking out four. Lobo has maintained a clean slate with no earned runs allowed in his last five outings, spanning 13.1 innings, with 18 strikeouts and two walks.

Both Dewald and Bowie contributed two hits apiece, while Harding capitalized with six base hits with runners on.

In game two, Harding found themselves trailing 3-0 entering the sixth inning but managed to turn the tide, exiting with a two-run lead. The Bisons went a perfect 3-for-3 with the bases loaded during the inning.

Sebastian Martinez's hit with the bases loaded scored Logan Lacey, narrowing Southeastern's lead to 3-1. Doyle's double down the left field line brought home Newsom and Dewald, with McNeel's single through the right side scoring two more runs after Price walked to reload the bases.

Harding's relief pitcher, Griffin Meeker (5-1), shut down Southeastern over four innings, securing the win while allowing only three hits and striking out two.

Dewald continued his impressive performance, going 3-for-3, marking his fifth game this season with three or more hits.
