Newsom's Knock Hoists Harding Over Ozarks, 2-1

SEARCY – Harding's Cooper Newsom lined a double to left field to score Logan Lacey in the bottom of the eighth and give the Bisons a 2-1 victory over the University of the Ozarks on Monday at Jerry Moore Field.

The victory was the fifth straight for Harding and pushed the Bisons to 26-14 overall. Harding plays another nonconference game Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Union (TN) University.

Lacey singled with two outs in the eighth and came home on Newsom's seventh double to break a 1-1 tie.

Harding scored first in the third inning when Lacey singled to score Nathan Bowie. Ozarks (14-18) tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.

Harding's third of four pitchers, Preston Tabor (1-1), earned the win. He pitched scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth. Kyle Lane pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

The four Harding pitchers combined to allow only three hits. Parker Newby started and allowed a run on two hits with four strikeouts over four innings. Dylan Penick retired all six batters he faced in the fifth and sixth innings.

Three Bisons had multi-hit games. Bowie, Lacey and Sawyer Price had two hits each. With his double, Newsom has reached base in 11 straight games.
