Two Down, One to Go: Baseball Bisons Win Sunday Doubleheader

ADA, Okla. – Harding baseball finished Sunday having accomplished two-thirds of its goal in a three-game Great American Conference series against East Central. The Bisons defeated the Tigers in both games of a doubleheader and will go for the series sweep Monday at 11 a.m.

The sweep boosted Harding's overall record to 29-14 and pushed them to 20-9 in conference. The Bisons are in third place at the end of play Sunday. East Central fell to 8-38 overall and 5-24 in conference.

Harding used a five-run first inning and six-run eighth inning to take the opener 14-3. The game ended after eight innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Harding pounded out 14 hits, including five doubles, two from Sebastian Martinez. The big blow in the first was a three-run double from Drew McNeel. Martinez's bases-loaded double in the eighth also drove in three runs.

Five different Harding batters had multiple hits. Sawyer Price was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Martinez was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Nathan Bowie went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Maddox Long (5-1) allowed only one earned run over seven innings and struck out four. It was the fifth time in his last six starts that Long allowed two earned runs or fewer.

Harding's pitching was solid in game two as well. Merritt Jay (5-3) allowed only four hits and no walks with four strikeouts over five innings. Dylan Penick closed with two perfect innings, striking out two.

After going scoreless in the first, Harding scored in each of the next five innings in the 10-0 victory. Michael Dewald had a two-run single in the fourth. Harding scored a run in the fifth on four hit-by-pitches. Bowie drove in two runs with a single in the sixth.
