Logan Lacey's Clutch Hit Seals Victory for Harding over Ouachita

SEARCY – With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Harding's Logan Lacey lined a full-count pitch to left-center field, scoring Collin Helms with the go-ahead run in the Bisons' 3-2 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday night in Great American Conference play at Jerry Moore Field.

The victory propelled Harding to a 21-13 overall record and a 14-8 standing in the conference. The Bisons end the night as part of a four-way tie for second place in the GAC standings, only one game back of leader Southern Arkansas.

In the eighth, Ouachita retired Harding's first two hitters before Helms doubled to left-center and came home on Lacey's liner, granting the Bisons their 100th victory all-time against Ouachita.

Junior Javier Lobo (4-1) came on in relief of Harding starter Maddox Long in the top of the eighth and induced an inning-ending double play. Lobo secured all three outs in the ninth via strikeouts to earn the win.

Long, who entered the game as the conference's strikeout leader, added 11 more to his tally, matching his career high. Over seven innings, Long allowed only five hits and two earned runs. His second strikeout of the game marked the 200th of his career, placing him fourth in Harding history with 209 career strikeouts.

Ouachita scored its two runs in the sixth to erase Harding's 2-0 lead.

The Bisons plated two runs in the fourth, with the first coming on Michael Dewald's seventh home run of the season, a towering shot to right-center field. Helms followed Dewald's blast with a nearly identical line drive that landed just short of the wall for a triple. He scored on a wild pitch.

Helms recorded three of Harding's seven hits, marking his team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season. He has reached base in the Bisons' last 11 games. Lacey went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.

The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
