Bisons Split Doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist, Clinch Series Win

SEARCY – Following a tough loss in the opening game of Saturday's Great American Conference doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field, where an Ouachita Baptist home run in the ninth inning sealed a defeat, Harding bounced back with an impressive 8-3 victory over the Tigers in game two, clinching the series two games to one. The Bisons claimed the opener with a 3-2 win on Saturday night in Searcy.

Exiting the series with a 22-14 overall record and a 15-9 mark in GAC games, Harding finds itself tied for fourth place in the conference standings with three weekend series remaining.

In game two, after falling behind 2-0, Harding rallied by scoring at least one run in each of the next four innings. The Bisons got on the board with a Sawyer Price RBI single in the second inning. Price came through again in the third with a two-run single, contributing to the Bisons' four-run inning. In the fifth, Harding scored twice, including a run on Collin Helms' RBI single, and added another run when Drew McNeel scored on a Ouachita error, the Tigers' third of the game.

On the mound, Merritt Jay (4-3) secured the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five. Griffin Meeker closed the game, retiring the last six outs. Price, Helms, and Cooper Newsom each contributed two hits for the Bisons, with Price matching his career high with three RBIs.

In the opener, Price delivered a solo homer, his first of the season and first since homering against Ouachita on the same weekend last season. His blast tied the game 1-1 in the fifth inning, and Harding took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on Nathan Bowie's RBI single. However, Ouachita's home run in the ninth inning put the Tigers ahead for good.

Davis Welch (4-3) pitched 8 2/3 innings in game one, striking out seven and allowing three earned runs on six hits. Welch has kept opponents to three earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts this season. Bowie was the only Bison with multiple hits in the opener, going 2-for-4.

Harding is set to play a nonconference game on Tuesday at home against Lane before hosting Southeastern Oklahoma next weekend in GAC action.
