Bisons Eliminated from GAC Tournament await NCAA Selection Show Sunday

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Tech shutout the Harding Baseball Bisons 5-0 in a elimination game of the Great American Conference Tournament Saturday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

The Bisons will have to wait until Sunday night to find out if they have been selected to the NCAA Central Regional. The show will air on NCAA.com at 9:30 p.m.

Harding, the No. 3 seed, falls to 36-17 overall and Arkansas Tech, the No. 2 seed, improves to 37-17 on the season and will face Arkansas-Monticello for the GAC Tournament Championship at noon on Saturday. The Wonder Boys will have to defeat the Weevils twice to win the championship.

Maddox Long, Davis Welch and Coulton Doyle were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Harding starter Merritt Jay started and received the loss to fall to 6-4 on the season. Jay went six innings, gave up four earned runs and struck out five.

Sebastian Martinez led the Bisons at the plate going 2-for-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Arkansas Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Nick Jones.

The Wonder Boys made it 2-0 in the third on an RBI groundout by Jones.

Arkansas Tech added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh on three hits. The Bisons walked in two runs with the bases loaded and Grant Jones knocked in a run.

GAME NOTES

-          Arkansas Tech outhit Harding 11-5.

-          Logan Lacey extended his hitting streak for Harding to 16 games.

-          Each team left eight runners on base.

-          Arkansas Tech starter Jack Rector got the win and improves to 6-4. He threw seven innings, gave up four hits and struck out four.

-          Grant Jones led the Wonder Boys at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
