NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Harding baseball team gave up five runs in the seventh and fell to Arkansas-Monticello 7-6 in the winners bracket of the Great American Conference Tournament Friday afternoon.
The Bisons stay alive in the double-elimination tournament and will face the winner between Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas Friday night at 7 p.m.
Harding, No. 3 seed, falls to 36-16 overall and Arkansas-Monticello, the No. 1 seed, improves to 31-21 on the season.
Harding starter Davis Welch went six innings for the Bisons but didn't get a decision. He gave up two earned runs and had seven strikeouts. Griffin Meeker received the loss out of the pen and falls to 6-2 on the season. Preston Tabor and Dylan Penick both came out of the pen and pitched solid for the Bisons.
Coulton Doyle led the Bisons at the plate going 2-for-2 with four RBI's and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arkansas-Monticello got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly.
Harding took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second on a two-run homer by Coulton Doyle. It was his seventh of the season.
UAM tied the game on an RBI single by Chase Cripps in the third inning.
Harding took the lead again in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Ty Kirkbride.
Arkansas-Monticello scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.
Harding answered back in the top of the eighth scoring three runs on four hits. Coulton Doyle singled in Michael Dewald and Logan Lacey for the first two runs and Drew McNeel hit an RBI single to score Cooper Newsom.
Harding got three up three down in the bottom of the eighth to setup the ninth inning.
Arkansas-Monticello closer Nelson Mercado came in and sat the Bisons down in order to get his seventh save of the season.

- Logan Lacey moved his hitting streak to 15 games for Harding.
