Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite Striking First, Harding Falls to Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Despite striking first, the Harding University men's soccer team couldn't sustain the momentum, falling 4-1 to Rogers State on Saturday at Soldier Field.

Nojus Grudis scored his second goal of the season in the 12th minute, assisted by Jake Whittington, to put the Bisons up 1-0 early. However, Rogers State responded with four unanswered goals to secure the victory. Grudis' goal gave Harding at least one goal in each of the first seven games for the first time in program history.

The Hillcats dominated possession, outshooting Harding 26-6 and holding a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal. Rogers State also took 14 corner kicks to Harding's one.

Harding goalkeeper Inigo Chavarria made 12 saves in the effort, including several crucial stops to keep the Bisons within striking distance. His 12 saves were the most by a Harding goalkeeper since James Thurmond had 12 at Christian Brothers on Oct. 15, 2006.

Rogers State's Marcos Vasallo led all players with seven shot attempts, while Brandon O'Rourke and Louis Bassett each scored for the Hillcats. Trindon Turner and Lawson Ford also found the back of the net for Rogers State.

The Bisons drop to 0-5-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Rogers State improves to 2-4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Harding will look to bounce back in its next matchup, a GAC/MIAA home game against Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 3.
