Bisons Fall Short in Back-and-Forth Battle, Lose 74-70 to Oklahoma Baptist

SEARCY — The Harding men's basketball team fell 74-70 to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Keyln McBride led the Bisons with 19 points, including 13 in the first half. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Oklahoma Baptist's strong shooting, particularly in the first half.

The game featured 14 ties and 20 lead changes, with neither team able to gain a clear advantage. Harding made three early 3-pointers to take a 15-11 lead, but Oklahoma Baptist responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead.

The Bisons tied the game at 34-34 late in the first half, but Oklahoma Baptist took a 43-40 lead into halftime. The Bison shot 59.3% (16 of 27) in the first half and made 4 of 5 3-pointers.

In the second half, Harding scored the first seven points to take a 47-43 lead, but Oklahoma Baptist answered with six straight points to retake the lead.

The game remained close until the final minutes, when Wyatt Gilbert hit a 33-foot 3-pointer with 2:07 left to give Harding a 70-69 lead. However, Oklahoma Baptist answered with three free throws to take a 72-70 lead with a minute left and Harding did not score again.

Harding's final possession resulted in a missed shot, securing the win for Oklahoma Baptist. JC Curry led the Bison with 21 points.

Stetson Smithson and Wyatt Gilbert added 11 points each for Harding, while Bubby Grant scored a season-high 10 points. The Bisons fell to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Great American Conference.

Harding's next game is Thursday against Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Oklahoma.
