Harding Holds Off Northwestern Oklahoma for 63-58 Win

SEARCY, Ark. — Harding men's basketball held off a late surge from Northwestern Oklahoma to secure a 63-58 win Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The victory improved Harding's record to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in the Great American Conference, keeping them tied for third place. Northwestern Oklahoma fell to 10-9 overall and 7-6 in conference, snapping their four-game winning streak.

Harding maintained a slim lead throughout the second half, but Northwestern Oklahoma refused to back down. With 1:47 remaining, the Rangers trailed 58-56, but Keyln McBride's free throw with 24.1 seconds left pushed the Bisons' lead to 59-56.

Northwestern Oklahoma responded with a dunk to cut the deficit to 59-58 with 14 seconds left. However, McBride was fouled again with 12.2 seconds remaining and sank both free throws to give Harding a 61-58 advantage.

The Rangers' last-ditch effort, a 3-point attempt to tie, fell short, and Wyatt Gilbert sealed the win for Harding with two free throws and 1.1 seconds left.

McBride led Harding with 16 points and five rebounds, while Sam Smith and Stetson Smithson added 14 points each. Rylie Marshall contributed eight points and a career-high seven assists.

Max Alexander paced Northwestern Oklahoma with 21 points.

Harding shot an impressive 56.0% (14 of 25) in the second half to hold off the Rangers.

The Bisons return to action on Saturday, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
