Harding Duo Opens Play Thursday at ITA Cup National Championship

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — The Harding men's tennis program will have two representatives competing in both singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup, the NCAA Division II national individual championship, beginning Thursday at Berry College.

Senior Adrian Solorzano leads the Bisons contingent, competing in the 16-player singles draw, while also teaming up with fellow senior Cian Mikkelsen in the 16-team doubles competition.

Singles Competition
Solorzano, a native of Morelia, Mexico, received an at-large bid after reaching the final of the ITA Central Region Championship. He concluded the 2024-25 season ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II singles.

Solorzano will face ITA East Region singles champion Henry Ronnberg of St. Thomas Aquinas in the Round of 16. The match is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11:30 a.m.

Historic Doubles Team
Solorzano and Mikkelsen, from Zoetermeer, Netherlands, qualified for the ITA Cup by becoming the first pairing in program history to win the ITA Central Region doubles championship. This will be Solorzano's second trip to the ITA Cup doubles draw, having reached the Flight A semifinals in 2024 with former teammate Cas de Ruiter.

Mikkelsen enters the competition with a stellar 45-17 career doubles record, a .726 winning percentage that ranks ninth all-time at Harding.

The Central Region champions will face No. 4-seed Bruno Sanchez and Juan David Duque of Midwestern State, the ITA South Central Region doubles champions, in the Round of 16. That match is slated for Thursday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m.

The ITA Cup, formerly known as the Small College Nationals, is the premier individual championship for non-Division I tennis and runs through Sunday, Oct. 19.
