ROME, Ga. - Harding's national run in the doubles bracket came to an end Saturday, but the Bisons still have a chance for a medal after Adrian Solorzano and Cian Mikkelsen were defeated in the ITA Cup semifinals.
Solorzano and Mikkelsen, the Central Region champions, fell in straight sets to the No. 2 seeded duo of Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon of West Florida, 6-3, 6-4. The loss moved the Harding pairing out of the national championship match and into the third-place contest.
They will play for third place on Sunday against the tournament's top seeds, Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia Perez of Saint Leo, with the match time to be determined.
In singles action, Solorzano's tournament concluded with a tight loss in the North consolation bracket. Solorzano, a senior, was defeated by Germano Setti of Midwestern State in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. After dropping the first set, Solorzano rallied strongly to take the second, but Setti secured the deciding set to claim the victory.
Solorzano will now compete for seventh place in the North consolation bracket on Sunday against an opponent to be determined. The match time is also pending.
