SEARCY, Ark. — Dylan Hall scored a season-high 13 points off the bench and Harding extended its winning streak to four games, defeating Ecclesia 77-60 on Monday night at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The Bisons (4-2) remained perfect at home (4-0) and improved to 7-0 all-time against the Royals.
Ty Suess added 12 points and six rebounds for Harding, which led wire-to-wire but had to fend off a second-half rally. Rece Hipp contributed 11 points, hitting 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
Adrian Nelson led Ecclesia (0-12) with a game-high 19 points on a perfect shooting night. Nelson finished 7 of 7 from the field, including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc.
Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, the Royals cut the deficit to 47-46 on a layup by Brock Wesley with 13:02 remaining. Harding responded immediately with baskets by Marko Rangan and Hall to spark a run that pushed the lead back to double digits.
Harding outrebounded Ecclesia 48-31 and grabbed a staggering school-record 25 offensive rebounds which they converted into 16 second-chance points. They also outscored the Royals 46-26 in the paint.
The Bisons' defense forced 26 turnovers—well above Ecclesia's season average—and capitalized with 27 points off those mistakes. Wesley Booker and Reggie Webster led the defensive effort with five steals apiece.
Ecclesia shot 47.6% from the field compared to Harding's 37.2%, but the sheer volume of extra possessions created by offensive rebounds and turnovers allowed the Bisons to pull away. Harding took 78 shots to Ecclesia's 42.
Harding opens Great American Conference play Thursday at home against Southwestern Oklahoma. Tipoff at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House is at 7:30 p.m.
