SEARCY — Catyn Graham drained seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points as Northwestern Oklahoma State rallied from an 11-point second-quarter deficit to upset No. 7 Harding 65-57 on Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The loss was the first of the season for Harding (7-1, 1-1 Great American Conference), snapping a seven-game winning streak. Northwestern Oklahoma State improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Harding appeared in control early, using an 8-0 run in the second quarter to build a 30-19 lead with 4:19 remaining in the half following a 3-pointer by Josie Williams. However, the Lady Rangers closed the half on an 8-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to 30-27 at the break.
The Lady Bisons' offense went cold in the third quarter, managing just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting. Northwestern took its first lead of the second half at 38-36 on a Graham 3-pointer with 2:05 left in the third and took a 42-38 advantage into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Northwestern shot 60% from the field to hold off a late Harding charge. A layup by Maddi Holt cut the Ranger lead to 60-57 with 26 seconds remaining, but Northwestern hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 21 seconds to secure the victory.
Graham finished 7-of-13 from beyond the arc for NWOSU. Jaida Shipp posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Kira Bass and Conley Cayot added 12 points apiece for the Lady Rangers.
Holt and Kori Sanders led Harding with 17 points each. Sanders played 39 minutes, adding six steals, four rebounds, and three assists. However, Harding struggled from the field, shooting just 33.3% (18-of-54) for the game.
Northwestern Oklahoma State won the battle on the boards 37-27 and outscored Harding 30-20 in the paint.
Harding returns to action Tuesday night when the Lady Bisons travel to face Arkansas-Monticello. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
