Harding Baseball Sweeps McKendree in Doubleheader

SEARCY — Harding swept a doubleheader from McKendree on Saturday at Jerry Moore Field, taking advantage of walks, hit batters and errors to claim 13-7 and 6-2 victories.

In the first game, Harding scored 13 runs on just eight hits, taking advantage of 13 walks, seven hit batters and three McKendree errors. Coulton Doyle homered and drove in three runs, while Cooper Newsom doubled and drove in two runs for Harding.

Kaid Muth homered and drove in three runs for McKendree, which took an early 4-0 lead but couldn't hold it. Austin Jobe (1-1) earned the win for Harding, allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings.

In the second game, Merritt Jay pitched five strong innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits, to earn the win for Harding. Seth Johnson drove in three runs with a double, and Collin Helms added an RBI single.

Peyton Bittle homered and drove in two runs for McKendree, which committed three errors and walked seven batters. Adam Keeney (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.

Harding's Nathan Bowie was hit by a pitch, walked, and stole a base, scoring two runs in the second game. Sebastian Martinez was hit by two pitches and walked, scoring a run. The Bisons' aggressive base running and patient approach at the plate paid off, as they drew 17 walks and were hit by nine pitches in the two games.

Harding improved to 6-1 on the season, while McKendree fell to 0-3. The two teams will meet again in the four-game series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
