Harding Takes Opener, Splits Doubleheader at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Harding's baseball team continued its dominant season Saturday, earning a split against Ouachita in a doubleheader after extending its winning streak to a school-record 14 games earlier in the day.

In the first game, Harding's offense exploded for 17 hits, including home runs from Logan Lacey, Seth Johnson and a double from Collin Helms. Preston Tabor (4-0) pitched six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 to earn the win.

The Bisons took a 12-1 victory over Ouachita in the opener, but the Tigers snapped Harding's streak in the second game, 4-2. Isaac Nowell's solo homer in the first inning gave Ouachita an early lead, and the Tigers added two more runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Wesley Scott.

Harding cut the deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the second and third innings. Nathan Bowie drove in Ty Kirkbride with an RBI single in the third inning.

Ouachita added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Joseph Bolin, scoring pinch runner Cade Bowman.

Luke House pitched a complete game for Ouachita, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 10. House also walked four batters.

Merritt Jay took the loss for Harding, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work. Austin Jobe pitched four innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.

With the split, Harding moves to 16-2 overall and 8-1 in the Great American Conference. Ouachita improves to 9-8 overall and 6-3 in the GAC.
