Lady Bisons Advance to GAC Semifinals with Win Over Southern Arkansas

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The second-seeded Harding Lady Bisons defeated seventh-seeded Southern Arkansas 64-49 in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament on Thursday at Southside Arena.

Harding (23-6) will face the winner of the Oklahoma Baptist-Northwestern Oklahoma matchup in the semifinals on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

The Lady Bisons went on a 20-0 run in the first quarter to take a commanding 20-2 lead, with Southern Arkansas missing 11 consecutive shots during the stretch. Harding held the Lady Muleriders to just 12.5% shooting (2-of-16) in the opening quarter, taking a 20-4 lead.

Harding extended its lead to 36-14 at halftime, holding Southern Arkansas to 19.4% shooting (6-of-31) and outscoring them 12-0 on fast break points. It was the fewest points allowed by Harding in the first half since giving up 14 against Southeastern Oklahoma on Feb. 2, 2023.

The Lady Bisons maintained their lead in the second half, despite Southern Arkansas shooting 63.6% (7-of-11) in the third quarter. Harding limited the Lady Muleriders to 14 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Josie Williams led Harding with 18 points, making four of the team's five 3-pointers. Sage Hawley added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Rory Geer had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Aubrey Isbell chipped in with 14 points and tied a career high with seven assists.

Harding made all 13 of its free throw attempts, its first perfect performance from the line in a GAC Tournament game.

With the win, Harding improved to 20-11 all-time in the GAC Tournament, making its 14th consecutive appearance. Southern Arkansas fell to 14-15 on the season.
