SEARCY — Harding swept a doubleheader from Union (TN) of the Gulf South Conference on Tuesday, earning their 30th and 31st victories of the season and marking the fourth consecutive year the Bisons have reached the 30-win plateau, a first in program history. Harding took game one 7-0 and followed it up with a 6-3 win in the nightcap at Jerry Moore Field.
In the first game, Harding (30-12) broke the scoreless tie with a six-run second inning. Kade Smith drove in two runs with a single, and Ty Kirkbride followed with an RBI double. Chance Resetich added a two-run single, and Collin Helms brought in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Smith later homered in the third inning to extend the lead.
Preston Tabor (5-3) earned the win for Harding, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing one hit. Seth Johnson picked up the save, going five innings and surrendering three hits while striking out five. Union (18-24) starter Nathan Myers (1-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on four hits in one inning.
Game two saw Union (18-25) take an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Harding (31-12) responded with four runs in the second. RBI hits from Nathan Bowie and Logan Lacey highlighted the inning.
Union's Grant Ross hit a solo home run in the fourth, and Kylon Joyner had an RBI fielder's choice to cut the Harding lead to 5-3. Ty Kirkbride added an RBI single in the third for the Bisons, and Sawyer Price had a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth.
Keaton Baird (4-1) earned the win in the second game for Harding, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on three hits. Griffin Meeker earned his first save of the season, pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Eli Jackson (0-4) took the loss for Union, allowing four runs on two hits in two innings.
NOTE: Due to a rain in the forecast Saturday and Easter Sunday, Harding's Great American Conference series with Southern Nazarene has been moved to Thursday and Friday. Thursday's game will begin at 6 p.m. with Friday's doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Senior Day activities will be before Friday's games.
