FORT SMITH, Ark. - The Harding men's golf team finished tied for second at the three-round Great American Conference (GAC) Championship, which concluded today at Hardscrabble Country Club.
Harding finished with a total score of 1-over 841, tying with Arkansas Tech. Arkansas Tech received the second-place trophy due to the scores of its non-scoring players over the three rounds. Henderson State won the tournament with a score of -1. Harding's 1-over 841 was its best GAC Championship score by 37 strokes. Its 11-under 269 in round three was the best round ever in the GAC Championship and tied for the lowest round in program history.
Harding's individual player results: Christian Lindgreen (-4, tied for 2nd), Dennis Staykov (E, tied for 6th), Jose Arzu (+5, tied for 12th), Finlay Cummings (+7, tied for 16th), and Jose Manuel Peralta (+11, tied for 23rd). Lindgreen earned All-Tournament honors for his top-5 finish.
In the third round, Harding's Dennis Staykov shot 6-under 64, the lowest score ever in the GAC Championship. He became the first Harding golfer on record with two eagles in the same round, eagling the par-5, 492-yard third hole and the par-5, 516-yard sixth hole. He played the front nine at 7-under 28.
The tournament was won by Henderson State. Arkansas Tech's Landon Lawson was the individual medalist with a score of -6.
On Friday, the NCAA will announce the 10 teams from the Central Region who will participate in the Midwest/Central Region Tournament on May 8-10 at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri. Harding entered the GAC Championships ranked No. 2 in the Central Region Rankings.
