TOPEKA, Kan. — Harding's Adrian Solorzano and Cian Mikkelsen secured a historic victory Sunday, becoming the first doubles team in program history to win the ITA Central Region doubles championship. The performance capped an outstanding weekend for the Bisons, who posted an impressive 15-3 overall record on the opening day of play Friday and saw multiple deep runs across the MIAA, Great American Conference, and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference region.
Solorzano and Mikkelsen, the tournament's No. 2 seed, defeated Aaron Osmond and Moritz Buss of Ouachita Baptist in a thrilling Flight A championship final, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-6. The duo dominated their way to the final, including an 8-1 semifinal win over Eduardo Bribliesca and Birk Arwedahl (UAFS) on Sunday.
The historic doubles title was paired with a stellar singles run by Solorzano, the No. 1 seed, who advanced to the Flight A singles final. Solorzano became the first Harding singles player to reach the ITA Central Region final since teammates Teodor Zlatar and Dani Ortiz met in the 2022 final. Solorzano secured his spot in the championship with a tough three-set quarterfinal victory and a 6-2, 7-5 win in the semifinal over Washburn's Zinovii Nahimiak, before falling in the final to Pavlos Parson of Washburn, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Harding's depth was evident throughout the weekend. The doubles team of Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has also made a deep run, advancing to the Flight A semifinals after clutch victories in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals on Saturday. In singles, Luis Agullo recorded a major upset on Friday by defeating No. 2 seed Anton Sarunic of Washburn and ultimately advanced to the Flight A quarterfinals before being stopped by the eventual champion, Parson.
Other notable performances included Edoardo D'Arrigo and Cian Mikkelsen both reaching the Round of 16 in Flight A singles, contributing to the team's dominant opening day record.
