Campbell Named MIAA/GAC South Division Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a perfect opening day to the 2026 spring season, Harding sophomore David Campbell has been named the MIAA/GAC South Division Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

The award, presented by ClassicCourt, marks the first weekly honor of the season for the No. 24-ranked Bisons and the first of Campbell's career.

A native of McKinney, Texas, Campbell was instrumental in Harding's doubleheader sweep this past Saturday in Conway. The sophomore finished the day 3-0 across singles and doubles play, helping the Bisons secure a 6-1 victory over Hendrix and a 7-0 shutout of John Brown.

Campbell's performance highlights:

  • Singles Success: In the nightcap against John Brown, Campbell dominated at No. 6 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Grant Hinkle.

  • Doubles Dominance: Campbell went 2-0 in doubles play. He teamed with Noah Trawick for a crucial 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Hendrix, which helped secure the doubles point. Later in the day, he paired with Luke Rhoden to outlast John Brown's No. 3 duo in a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker to complete a doubles sweep.

Nebraska Kearney's Ivan Melnik was named the North Division Athlete of the Week after leading the Lopers to a conference win over Augustana.

Campbell and the Bisons return to the court this Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. for a regional clash against Drury in Springfield, Missouri.
