EMPORIA, Kan. — Driven by a barrage of historic, podium-climbing performances on the final day of competition, the No. 11-ranked Harding women's track and field team secured a 17th-place team finish at the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Welch Stadium.
The Lady Bisons accumulated 14.5 points over the weekend, representing the second-highest point total at outdoor nationals in program history, trailing only the 25 points scored in 2005. The 17th-place team finish also marks the second-best NCAA finish in Lady Bison history, behind an eighth-place finish in 2005.
Konovalenko Grabs Bronze in Javelin
Freshman Erika Konovalenko made an unforgettable national debut on Saturday afternoon. The Kherson, Ukraine native entered the competition as the third seed and lived up to the billing in the javelin runway.
Konovalenko opened with a throw of 47.10m to sit in fourth place early. She improved to 50.12m on her third throw before launching a clutch mark of 51.63m (169-04) on her fourth attempt. The throw bumped her into third place overall, where she finished to secure six points for the Lady Bisons. The bronze-medal finish is the highest placement ever by a Harding women's athlete in the javelin at the national championships, earning her First Team All-America honors.
Cheek Reaches Historic Heights
Junior Ally Cheek rewrote the record books in the high jump, becoming the first Lady Bison ever to earn outdoor First Team All-America honors in the event.
The Sachse, Texas native put on a masterclass in clean jumping, clearing 1.62m, 1.67m, and 1.72m (5-07.75) all on her very first attempts. Cheek missed her three attempts at 1.75m, ending the competition in a tie for fourth place overall to claim 4.5 points for Harding's team score.
Bangue Powers to All-American Finish
Freshman Yedidya Bangue added to the Lady Bisons' final-day point total with a strong performance in the shot put circle. The Yaounde, Cameroon native entered the meet as the only Lady Bison ever to qualify for nationals in the event and proved she belonged among the country's best.
Bangue recorded her top mark on her very first throw, landing a distance of 15.12m (49-07.25). She finished with three total throws over the 15-meter mark, placing eighth overall to earn First Team All-America honors and secure one point for the team. Bangue also earned the distinction of being the highest-finishing freshman in the national field.
A Historic Season Completed
The final day's points, combined with senior Hanna Onufriieva's historic sixth-place finish in the triple jump on Friday, brought the Lady Bisons' final team score to 14.5.
Combined with the men's team's 43 points, Harding track and field scored a combined 57.5 points at the 2026 outdoor championships—the highest combined score ever achieved by the Bisons and Lady Bisons in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 56 points set in 2024.
