Bison Basketball Faces Incarnate Word and St. Edward’s this Weekend

SEARCY – The Harding men's basketball team takes the court this weekend traveling to Incarnate Word and St. Edward's. The Bisons will face the Incarnate Word on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and St. Edward's on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Harding heads into the weekend with a 4-1 overall record.

Harding hasn't faced either team since the 2006-07 season. Friday's meeting will only be the second time Harding has taken the court against Incarnate Word. In the first meeting, The Cardinals came out on top, 79-70. Harding has a 3-0 series advantage against St. Edward's. The Bisons won the last meeting in overtime, 91-89.

The Bisons have three players that are averaging double-figure scoring, leading the way is senior guard Matt Garner who comes off the bench to and averages 12.6 points per game. Garner also leads the Bisons in field goal percentage, shooting 67.6 percent from the floor. He has hit 13-of-20 three-pointers this season. Forward Kevin Brown and guard Sam Brown are the other two Bisons in double-figure scoring, each averaging 10.8 points per game.

Incarnate Word is 4-2 on the season. Both of the Cardinals losses have come against Gulf South Conference teams. Incarnate Word fell 73-71 to Henderson State and fell 79-72 against Ouachita Baptist. The Bisons looks to give the Cardinals their first home loss on the season as Incarnate Word is 3-0 at home.

The Cardinals are led by Pierce Caldwell who averages 16.3 points per game. Eric Stewart averages 12.2 points per game for the Cardinals and Tracy Robinson adds 11.3 points per game and leads the team on the boards averaging eight rebounds a game.

St. Edward's had a slow start to their season going 0-4 in their first four games but has rallied back and is on a two game winning streak. Both of the Hilltoppers wins have come against GSC teams. They defeated Arkansas-Monticello 58-50 and Ouachita Baptist 79-64.

Jeff Miner leads the Hilltoppers averaging 18.2 points per game and 5.3 rebounds a game. Reggie Shanks is second on the team in points averaging 15.2 points per game and 5.0 rebounds a game.

 The Bisons rank second in the GSC in scoring defense. Harding has held their opponents to under a 55 point scoring average this season.

Harding is averaging 4.4 blocks per game (22), ranking second in the GSC. Junior Kevin Brown averages 2.6 blocks per game, which leads the GSC.
