SEARCY - Harding University sophomore forward Phillip McCormick scored his first goal of the season in the 14th minute to lift the Bisons to a 1-0 victory over Lyon College in a driving rain storm Tuesday night at First Security Stadium.

McCormick collected the ball near midfield and split the Lyon defense before unleashing a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that beat Scot goalkeeper Matt Callaway. It was McCormick's 12th career goal, but his first game-winner.

Harding (2-5-0) won its second straight game by a 1-0 score line. The Bisons defeated Texas-Tyler on Saturday on a Drew Nowlin penalty kick in the second overtime.

Lyon (5-1-0) lost for the first time this season and fell behind 4-3 in the all-time series against Harding.

The Scots had 10 shots in the game, six on goal, but the Bison goalkeeping duo of James Thurmond and Andrew Flesher turned back each attempt. Flesher had four saves, and Thurmond had two.

Harding returns to action Friday against North Georgia College and State University in a neutral site game to be played in Columbus, Ga.
