Southern Arkansas Completes Sweep of Baseball Bisons

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas, the No. 3-ranked team in Division II, completed a three-game sweep of Harding on Sunday with a 13-3 victory over the Bisons. The Muleriders had 15 hits and walked 11 times in the final game of the series.

Harding (10-13, 0-3) trailed 9-0 after the seventh inning before scoring its first runs of the series in the top of the eighth. Junior Jason Nappi hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot off Southern Arkansas starter Dan Bream (4-1). Bryce Biggerstaff replaced Bream, and two batters later, freshman Erin McCarver hit his first collegiate home run.

Southern Arkansas (19-3, 3-0) answered with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the game an inning early on the 10-run rule.

Bream gave Southern Arkansas its third straight solid starting effort. He lasted 7 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits.

Sophomore Hayden Shirley (0-3) started for the Bisons and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Harding used four relievers to finish the game. The staff's 11 walks allowed were the most in a game this season.

McCarver went 2-for-4 for Harding with a double and a home run and was the only Bison with two hits in a game in the series. Anthony Guglielmi went 1-for-4 and had a hit in each of the three games.

Patrick Johnson, a junior transfer from Northwestern State, went 4-for-5 with a double for Southern Arkansas.

Harding is back in action Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Williams Baptist beginning at 2 p.m.
