Straight Lyon Wins: Baseball Bisons Swept in Batesville

Harding loses non-conference doubleheader

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Lyon College scored 21 runs on 27 hits and won both games of a non-conference doubleheader over Harding on Tuesday at Scots Field. Lyon won the opener 12-6 and took game two 9-4.

Harding (14-15) led 4-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning of game, but Lyon (16-7) pounded out eight hits and scored eight runs off two Bison relievers to take an 11-4 lead. The big blow was a three-run home run by Zach Wallace.

Harding junior Clay West went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Paul Anzalone and Will McDonald also scored twice each.

Seven different Lyon hitters had multiple hits in game one, and the Scots totaled 16 base hits. Wallace, Evan Segler and Garry Richards all hit home runs.

Sophomore Daniel Niehls (1-1) took the loss for the Bisons. Reliever Josh McNatt (4-0) remained unbeaten, taking the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Harding again led in game two, holding a 4-2 advantage going into the bottom of the second inning, but Lyon scored three in the second and three more in the third to pull away.

Chase Presley and Jason Nappi had two hits each for Harding, and Nappi drove in three of the Bisons' four runs. Lyon had 11 hits. Wallace had two of them and drove in three runs.

Harding starter Lucas Waddell (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Donny Stephens pitched well out of the pen, allowing only one run in 3 1/3 innings.

Cody Harper (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings out of the Scot bullpen to earn the win.

Harding is back in action Saturday and Sunday with a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Delta State.
