WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The Harding baseball team had a three-run lead in the fifth and held on for a 3-2 road win over Williams Baptist on Tuesday at Shell Field. The Bisons had five players with multiple hits in the game.

Harding (21-22) took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Paul Anzalone sacrifice fly. Anthony Guglielmi's run-scoring infield single in the third gave the Bisons a two-run lead. Harding's final run came in the fifth on Jason Nappi's RBI double.

The Bisons had 12 hits in the game but left 11 runners on. Guglielmi and Erin McCarver had three hits each. Jason Nappi, Chase Presley and Trent Kinnear each had two hits.

Harding used four pitchers in the game, invoking an NCAA rule that allows the starting pitcher to earn the win even without pitching the normal five innings required. Freshman Lucas Waddell (4-1) started and went three innings, allowing four hits and no runs. He left with the lead and earned the win.

Senior Patrick Nappi pitched the next two innings and allowed two runs, one earned. The two runs came in the bottom of the fifth and cut the Harding lead to 3-2.

Freshman Tyler Billen held Williams Baptist (18-24) scoreless for the next three innings, and senior Donny Stephens earned his second save with a scoreless ninth.

Williams Baptist had nine total hits with Jordan Fowler and Adam Dahl recording two each.

Harding is back in action Saturday in Gulf South Conference action. The Bisons play Arkansas-Monticello on the road.
