Tourney Bound: Harding Tennis Competes for GSC Title

SEARCY – The Harding men's and women's tennis teams both qualified for the Gulf South Conference Tournament and will begin play Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.

 

The Bisons enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed from the West Division and take on nationally-ranked No. 9 West Florida, the No. 2 seed from the East Division. The match begins at 11 a.m. at the O'Conner Tennis Center.

 

Harding, the 12th-ranked team in the NCAA Division II South Region, has a 14-6 overall record and finished 1-2 in GSC West Division play. Below is the projected lineup for the Bisons:

No. 1 – Henrique Ruiz (5-9)

No. 2 – Marco Ruiz (7-3)

No. 3 – Chris Beach (5-6)

No. 4 – Ivan Michelli (10-5)

No. 5 – Adam Edwards (6-9)

No. 6 – Helio Hashimoto (8-6)

 

Doubles (record)

No. 1 – H. Ruiz/M. Ruiz (4-6)

No. 2 – Beach/Michelli (2-4)

No. 3 – Edwards/Hashimoto (4-2)

 

The Lady Bisons enter their tournament as the No. 2 seed in the West Division and meet West Alabama, the No. 3 seed from the East Division. The matchup begins at 8:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park.

 

Harding is the 12th-ranked team in the South Region and has a 22-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the GSC West. A win over West Alabama would set a new school record for wins in a season. The projected lineup for the Lady Bisons:

A win by the Bisons would send them to the semifinals Saturday at 4:30 p.m., with the finals Sunday at noon. With a victory, the Lady Bisons would play in the semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday's championship is at 9 a.m.
