SEARCY – The Harding baseball team cranked out 31 hits and swept Christian Brothers in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Friday at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons won the opener 13-3 and took game two 16-4.
Harding (19-17, 5-5 GSC West) maintained its spot in fourth place in the GSC West with the two victories. It also marked the first time this season the Bisons were two games over .500. Christian Brothers (4-29, 0-10) remained winless in GSC play and dropped to 0-11 on the road this season.
Harding scored in every inning of game one and multiple times in the last four innings. The Bisons' 16 hits in the opener were the most in a game this season. Sophomore Chase Presley and redshirt freshman Anthony Guglielmi both had three hits for Harding. Jason Nappi hit his team-leading sixth home run.
Senior Troy Keith (2-2) pitched a complete game for Harding, allowing nine hits and two earned runs.
Alfredo Arroyo went 3-for-4 for Christian Brothers.
Alex Sikes (1-5) suffered the loss for the Bucs. He allowed 15 hits and six earned runs in four innings.
Harding scored a season-high 16 runs in game two. The Bisons had 15 hits and benefitted from nine walks. Nappi went 2-for-2 and drove in five runs. Presley was 2-for-2 and became the first Bison this season to score four runs in a game.
Clay West went 3-for-5 and Erin McCarver was 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Sophomore Kyle Cline (3-4) picked up the win for Harding, allowing only two hits and two earned runs in five innings.
Arroyo had two hits for CBU, and Chance Ruggeroli hit a solo home run.
John Romo (0-5) took the loss. He allowed eight runs in two innings.
The series finale is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jerry Moore Field.
