Porter Leads Harding over Christian Brothers, 68-58

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding junior Kirk Porter scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the 22nd-ranked Bisons to a 68-58 victory over 19th-ranked Christian Brothers on Saturday at Canale Arena.

With the victory, Harding improved to 14-2 overall, its best-ever 16-game start. The Bisons also improved to 4-0 in Gulf South Conference action for only the second time in its 11 seasons in the conference.

Harding led by just two points, 46-44, after Harry Green connected on a 3-pointer with 10:26 left in the game. The Bisons answered with a 10-1 run, and led 55-45 on Porter's layup with 4:58 remaining.

Christian Brothers (15-4, 3-2) cut the lead to five on another Green 3-pointer with 36 seconds left, but Harding made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to hold on to the lead.

The Bisons previous best 16-game start was a 13-3 mark in 1995-96.

Porter made 5-of-13 from the field, but connected on all nine free throw attempts. He had made only of his last 10 free throws. Porter also led the Bisons with four assists.

Sam Brown scored 14 of his 18 points for Harding in the first half. He made 4-of-7 from 3-point range and made all four free throws.

Harding made 23-of-30 free throws (77 percent), while Christian Brothers made only 8-of-11.

Scott Dennis led Christian Brothers with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. He played all 40 minutes for the second straight game. Green scored 18 points, hitting four of CBU's six 3-pointers.

Harding, winners of five straight and tied with Arkansas Tech for the GSC West Division lead, will return to the Rhodes Field House on Monday to meet Arkansas-Monticello at 7:30 p.m.
