PENSACOLA, Fla. – Harding men's soccer got the early goal it was looking for, but it did not stand up and the Bisons fell 2-1 in overtime to West Florida on Sunday in Gulf South Conference action.
Harding (3-9-1, 0-2-0) scored only its second goal in the last seven games when senior Connor Galloway converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute. It was only the sixth goal for the Bisons in 12 games against West Florida.
The Bisons held the lead through halftime, but not much longer. West Florida (6-2-2, 2-0-0) scored just 56 seconds into the second half on Will Henderson's second goal of the season to even the game.
Despite begin outshot 15-2 in regulation, Harding held on to send the game into overtime.
Just over five minutes into overtime, Harding defender Jona Amssoms was called for a hand-ball foul in the box on a shot that appeared to hit Amssoms in the chest. West Florida's Marquel Waldron converted the penalty kick to give the Argos the win.
Harding returns home to meet Southwestern Christian in Searcy on Friday at 7:30 p.m. It is the first of four straight home games for the Bisons and includes conference games against Christian Brothers and Delta State.
