SEARCY – Three Harding pitchers turned in outstanding season debuts Sunday and the Bisons split a doubleheader with Maryville at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons fell 2-0 in game one and won 4-1 in game two to take the three-game series, 2-games-to-1.

Sophomore Logan Holthaus (1-0), a transfer from Jefferson College, was dominant in his Harding debut. He struck out eight and allowed only four hits and an unearned run. Holthaus threw only 72 pitches, 54 for strikes, in the complete game victory.

Sophomore Billy Ninemire went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI to lead the Bison offense. His first inning triple scored Chase Presley, and Ninemire came in on Jason Nappi's run-scoring groundout. Anthony Guglielmi doubled home a run in the third, Ninemire's single in the sixth scored Matt Calhoun.

Senior Brodie Brumley (0-1), making his first start in over a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his elbow, allowed only one earned run over four innings in the opener.

He suffered the loss, however, as Maryville plated two runs in the third inning. Maryville's Colby White drove in a run with an infield single and a second run scored on a Harding throwing error.

Sophomore Lucas Waddell pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowed only two hits and struck out four.

Harding had just four hits in the game against Maryville pitchers Brett Hancock (1-0) and Matt Staback.  Nappi was 2-for-3, and Calhoun and Clay West each had singles.

Harding's pitchers posted a 0.39 ERA in the series and limited Maryville hitters to a .139 batting average.

Harding is back at Jerry Moore Field on Tuesday with a noon doubleheader against Central Baptist.
