Bisons Take Two: Harding Sweeps Central Baptist

SEARCY – Harding's pitching continued its outstanding start, and the Bisons picked up key hits in a doubleheader sweep of Central Baptist on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field. Harding won the opener 7-5 and took game two 9-0.

Harding improved to 4-1 on the season and has won its last three. Central Baptist was playing its first games of the season and fell to 0-2.

Alex Smith (1-0) allowed only two earned runs in five innings in the opener. Freshman Jeremy Bohnett provided the offensive firepower with a pair of home runs. He went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Bohnett's two-run home run in the sixth put the Bisons ahead to stay.

Sophomore Billy Ninemire went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI.

Freshman Bronson Smith (1-0) did not allow a hit in pitching the first five innings of game two for the Bisons. He walked only one and struck out seven.

Central Baptist did not have a hit in the second game until Austin Davis' single up the middle with one out in the seventh.

Ninemire and Chase Presley each had two hits for Harding. The Bisons sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the third inning. Jason Nappi had a two-run double in the inning, and Bohnett laced a two-run triple.

Cedric Lee and Tyler Hill were the two losing pitchers for Central Baptist.

Harding returns to action Saturday on the road against Alabama-Huntsville. The teams play a four-game weekend series.
