5-for-5: Nappi Leads Harding over Arkansas-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Harding baseball team took advantage of nine Arkansas-Fort Smith errors and defeated Lions 12-2 on Tuesday at Crowder Field. It was the highest scoring output of the season for the Bisons.

Five of Arkansas-Fort Smith's error came in Harding's nine-run second inning. The Bisons had six hits in the inning, but all nine runs were unearned.

Harding (12-3) had a season-high 14 hits in the game, and senior third baseman Jason Nappi was 5-for-5. He raised his batting average to .500 for the season with the second five-hit game of his Harding career. All five of Nappi's hits were singles.

Sophomore Lucas Waddell (1-0) collected his first win of the season on the mound for Harding. He allowed six hits and only one earned run over five innings. Donny Stephens and Daniel Niehls both pitched one scoreless inning in relief. The game ended after seven innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Arkansas-Fort Smith (4-7) used four pitchers in the game. The quartet allowed 14 hits but only one of Harding's 12 runs was earned because of the errors.

Junior Chase Presley was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI for the Bisons, and Anthony Guglielmi went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.

Harding has won six straight games and will return to Jerry Moore Field for a three-game series against Missouri S&T.
