SEARCY – A 20-mile-per-hour wind blowing in from center field had little effect on Harding's hitters Tuesday as the Bisons pounded out a season-high 18 hits in a 15-0 shutout of Lyon in non-conference action at Jerry Moore Field.
Harding, which scored in every inning but the third, improved to 24-4 with the victory and extended its winning streak to eight games. Lyon fell to 12-15. The game ended after seven innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.
Harding set season highs with 15 runs scored and 18 hits. Seven different Bison hitters had two or more hits in the game. Sophomore Anthony Guglielmi went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and four RBI. It was his first career four-hit game.
Bison senior Jason Nappi was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI. In the second inning, he lined a three-run home run over the left field wall. It was his team-leading fourth home run.
Harding used five different pitchers in the shutout. Freshman Cameron Walker (2-0) started and went three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three.
The 15-0 shutout tied Harding's largest margin in a shutout during the program's NCAA history. The Bisons also blanked Williams Baptist 15-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Feb. 21, 2004.
Harding will be back in action Saturday and Sunday with a three-game Gulf South Conference series against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark.
