Nappi, Kinnear Lead HU Baseball to Sixth Straight Victory

SEARCY – Harding seniors Jason Nappi and Trent Kinnear combined for six hits and eight RBI in leading the Bisons to a 12-2 victory over Missouri S&T on Saturday at Jerry Moore Field. It was Harding's seventh consecutive victory and lifted the Bisons to 13-3. Missouri S&T fell to 4-3.

With the game tied 1-1, the duo both played key roles in Harding's four-run sixth inning and five-run seventh inning that broke the game open.

Kinnear doubled with the bases loaded to score three runs in the sixth, and Nappi also had an RBI double in the inning. In the seventh, Nappi hit a two-run home run to left center, his first home run of the season, and Kinnear contributed an RBI single.

Leading 10-2 after seven innings, Harding scored two more in the eighth to end the game an inning early due to the NCAA's 10-run rule. The final run came on a Nappi sacrifice fly.

Nappi was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. He is riding a team-best 11-game hitting streak and is 10-for-13 in his last three games. Nappi has a team-leading .521 batting average and 19 RBI.

Kinnear was 3-for-3 with four RBI, tying his career high for both hits and RBI in a game. He is hitting .481thus far after posting a .247 average last season.

Ryan Modglin allowed only one earned run in five innings as Harding's starting pitcher. He walked six and struck out six. Senior Donny Stephens (2-0) collected the win. He yielded an unearned run on one hit in two innings of relief. Freshman Cameron Walker pitched a scoreless eighth.

Missouri S&T starter Kyle Robertson (0-2) lasted 5 1/3 innings. He allowed only three hits but walked six and gave up five earned runs in suffering the loss.

Zach Carter had two of Missouri S&T's three hits and drove in a run.

The two teams will meet again Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
