SEARCY – The Harding baseball team ran its winning streak to nine straight games Sunday with a pair of victories over Missouri S&T that completed a three-game series sweep. The Bisons won 5-3 and 7-5.
Sophomore Anthony Guglielmi hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth in the opener to break a 3-3 tie and give Harding the lead for good. Sophomore Erin McCarver, who went 2-for-2 with four RBI, hit his first home run, a solo shot, in the eighth.
Harding had 10 hits in the game. Sophomore Billy Ninemire was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Bison junior Marc McRae (3-0) pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in relief. He allowed only two hits and struck out three. Harding starter Brodie Brumley went 5 1/3 innings and allowed only two earned runs on three hits.
Missouri S&T reliever Alex Dunn (1-1) surrendered Guglielmi's home run and took the loss.
Five of Harding's seven hits and six of its seven runs came from the top three hitters in the lineup in game two. The Bisons used a four-run sixth inning to come from 4-3 behind to take the lead.
Harding leadoff hitter Chase Presley, who went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI, doubled and drove in first run in the sixth. Ninemire, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, reached on an error. Jason Nappi singled and drove in Presley to make tie the game at 5-5. Paul Anzalone then laced the game-winning hit to left center, scoring Ninemire with the go-ahead run.
Sophomore Tyler Billen (1-0) came on in relief of Harding starter Logan Holthaus and recorded one out to earn the win. Holthaus went 5 2/3 and allowed four runs on four hits and struck out four. Freshman Bronson Smith allowed one run in the seventh, but picked up his fourth save.
Reliever Drew Pyles (0-1) took the loss in relief for Missouri S&T (4-5).
Harding is back in action Wednesday for a noon doubleheader against North Alabama.
