SEARCY – The 16th-ranked Harding baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Williams Baptist on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field. Harding lost the opener 2-1 before winning the second game 6-1.
Harding moved to 32-8 on the season, just four wins short of a new school record with 10 regular season games remaining. Williams Baptist, a small NAIA school in Walnut Ridge, Ark., is 13-23.
Harding junior Chase Presley continued his outstanding hitting with a double in game one and a three-run home run in the Bisons' six-run second inning in game two.
Harding had six hits in the second off Williams Baptist starter James Mitchell (0-1). Charles Bradley, Clay West and Jeremy Bohnett also drove in runs in the inning.
Bison junior Alex Smith (4-0) earned the win in game two for Harding, pitching four innings and allowing only two hits and one earned run.
Cameron Walker (4-1) pitched well for the Bisons in game one, but Harding's offense never got untracked. Walker allowed one earned run on five hits in five innings and struck out eight.
Josh Brown (1-1) earned his first win of the season for Williams Baptist in his fourth start. He yielded only one earned run on six hits in hits innings. Caleb Dudley pitched the seventh for his second save.
Harding will be back in action this weekend with a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark. The Bisons and Reddies will meet for a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
Harding is currently in second place in the GSC West Division, tied with Delta State. Harding is one game behind Arkansas Tech. Delta State and Arkansas Tech meet this weekend in Cleveland, Miss.
