SEARCY – The Harding women's tennis team won for the ninth time in its last 10 matches with a 9-0 victory over Henderson State on Thursday at the HU Tennis Courts.
The victory gave the Lady Bisons an 18-6 overall record and sole possession of second place in the Gulf South Conference West Division with a 5-1 record. Harding will meet West Alabama, the No. 3 seed from the East Division, in the quarterfinals of the GSC Tournament on April 16 in Montgomery, Ala.
Harding won all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores. Ling Chan and Benyapa Phumtip won their fourth straight at No. 1. Gina Cielo and Chelsea Hunt improved to 4-3 with a victory at No. 2, and Callie Huey and Fabiola Wisnesky-Michelli moved to 5-3 with a victory at No. 3.
Harding won all six singles matches in straight sets. Chan moved to 8-7 with a win at No. 1. Phumtip won her fifth straight and improved to 12-3 at No. 2. Hunt has a five-match winning streak after her victory at No. 3. Cielo has a team-best seven-match winning streak and was victorious at No. 4. Huey snapped a two-match skid and improved to 9-7 at No. 5, and Janet Orgain improved to 9-1 with a win at No. 6.
