SEARCY – Harding men's basketball is looking to keep a perfect home record in Great American Conference games Saturday as its closes the first half of conference play against Henderson State. Tipoff at Rhodes Field House is at 7:30 p.m., and the game will air live on KVHU 95.3-FM and HardingSports.com.
Harding won its third straight conference home game Thursday with a 74-66 victory over Arkansas-Monticello. The victory moved the Bisons to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Harding is tied with three other teams for third place in the nine-team conference.
The Bisons held the GAC's second-leading scorer, UAM's L.A. Farmer, to only five points in the victory. Farmer averaged 21.0 points entering the game but made only 1-of-12 shots. The Boll Weevils entered the game as the conference's top offense, but the Bisons limited them to fewer than 70 points for only the second time this season.
Henderson State enters the game with a one-game lead over Arkansas Tech at the top of the conference. The Reddies started the season 5-5, but have won six of seven games in GAC play. Henderson State is coming off an 81-69 home victory over Southern Arkansas on Thursday.
The Reddies trailed by eight at halftime but outscored the Muleriders 50-30 in the second half to seal their seventh victory in their last eight games.
Harding and Henderson State have played 107 times since 1957, with the Bisons winning 36 times. Harding has won the last five meetings and seven of the last eight overall. Henderson State has not won in Searcy since 2007.
The admissions office at Harding is calling for a “white-out” Saturday night with all fans wearing white.
In addition, the first 1,500 fans will receive a complimentary foam spirit noodle to use during the games to cheer the Lady Bisons and Bisons to victory.
