MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Harding women's tennis won its third straight match Tuesday with a 9-0 victory over Southern Arkansas. It was the Lady Bisons' third consecutive shutout and 27th straight victory over the Lady Riders.
Harding improved to 5-2 with the victory, while Southern Arkansas fell to 0-2. The teams will meet again March 28 in Searcy for the official Great American Conference match.
Harding won all three doubles matches, losing just two games. Chelsea Hunt and Katie Huff teamed to play No. 1 singles for the first time this season and improved to 3-2 with an 8-2 win. Gina Cielo and Callie Huey won their second straight with an 8-0 victory at No. 2, and Gabrielle Rowden and Cina Catteau played together for the first time this season and won 8-0 at No. 3.
The Lady Bisons won all six singles matches in straight sets. Ling Chan won her fifth straight overall and improved to 5-1 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jamie Poe. Hunt moved to 4-2 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2, the first time she has played at No. 2 this season. Cielo won her 14th consecutive singles match dating to last season with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3.
Huff downed Rebecca Hensley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 for her third straight win. Huey blanked Autumn Foster at No. 5 and is 5-1 in singles play. Maria Moreno remained unbeaten at 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Jordan White at No. 6.
Harding is off until Feb. 27 when it hosts Stillman College for its first home match of the spring semester.
