SEARCY – The 30th-ranked Harding baseball team plays the fourth game of an eight-game home stand Wednesday at 2 p.m. against McKendree at Jerry Moore Field. The game will air live on HardingSports.com with streaming video and live stats.
Harding (16-6) dropped from 17th to 30th in the Division II Collegiate Baseball News poll after a 2-3 week. The Bisons lost a pair of one-run games at North Alabama before winning two of three at home against Quincy.
Sophomore
Matt Calhoun continued to excel at the plate for Harding, hitting .444 (8-of-18) with three doubles and a home run during the five-game stretch. He was 4-for-5 with two doubles in the Bisons' 7-6 victory over Quincy on Friday.
As a team, Harding has the lowest batting average in the Great American Conference (.269), but the Bisons are third in doubles (43) and have picked up some clutch hits, batting .306 with runners on base.
Harding's three starters in the Quincy series allowed just three earned runs over 25 innings (1.08 ERA) and the Bisons lead the GAC with a 3.02 team ERA.
Junior
Ryan Modglin (1-1, 4.80) will make his third start of the season for the Bisons. Freshman
Andrew Fiddler (2-1, 2.77) and senior
Alex Smith (0-1, 6.00) could also see time on the mound.
McKendree, a member of the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference located in Lebanon, Ill., is playing Harding in the final game of a three-game road trip to Arkansas. The Bearcats (4-12) played two games at Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia on Tuesday.
Entering its midweek road games, McKendree has a .272 team batting average and 9.03 ERA.
Harding and McKendree will be meeting for the first time on the diamond.
