Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to erase a two-run deficit and defeat 20th-ranked Harding 8-7 on Sunday at Weevil Field. Harding won the first two games of the Great American Conference series Saturday.
Harding (14-3, 2-1) led 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, but Arkansas-Monticello (11-6, 1-2) had three straight hits to tie the game with no outs. The Bisons were forced to intentionally walk the bases loaded with one out, but an unintentional walk to Tyler Walker forced in the winning run.
Junior
Ryan Modglin (0-1) pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and did not allow a run until yielding the three in the ninth. Junior
Lucas Waddell started and lasted five innings. He allowed nine hits and five runs but left with the lead.
Josh Chism (2-0) pitched five innings of relief and allowed only one earned run in collecting the win.
Harding scored two in the second on an RBI double by
Jeremy Bohnett and a bases loaded walk to
Kyle Atkins.
UAM led 4-2 after three innings, but Harding tacked on two more in the fourth on
Gabe Fyock's RBI single and a run-scoring triple from Atkins.
Arkansas-Monticello took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but Harding pulled ahead with three in the fifth. Stanford had an RBI double, and two more runners scored on an error.
Harding had 11 hits in the game. Sophomore
Matt Calhoun was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Atkins had two hits and two RBI, and
Kyler Offenbacker had two hits in his first collegiate start.
