GAC Tournament Bracket
SEARCY – Harding women's tennis will enter this weekend's Great American Conference Championship as the No. 2 seed and will meet No. 7 seed Southern Arkansas in quarterfinals. The match will begin Friday at 9 a.m., at the Ouachita Baptist indoor courts in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Harding is 19-7 overall and finished 5-1 in conference play with its only loss coming to regular season champion Arkansas Tech.
Southern Arkansas is 1-12 overall and lost all six of its conference matches.
Harding defeated Southern Arkansas twice during the 2011-12 season, winning 9-0 in Magnolia on Feb. 14 and 9-0 in Searcy on Mar. 28. The Lady Bisons have won all 28 of the meetings against the Lady Riders.
Harding's lineups are set for the tournament. In doubles play,
Ling Chan and
Benyapa Phumtip will be Harding's No. 1 team. The duo is 13-3 this season and has won their last four matches.
At No. 2 doubles,
Katie Huff and Chelsea Hunt have won a team-best 14 matches and are 10-6 at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles team of
Gina Cielo and
Callie Huey went undefeated in four conference matches and are 12-3 as teammates.
Harding's singles lineup will include Chan at No. 1, where she is 11-8. Phumtip, who is 10-3, will play No. 2. Hunt won all five of her conference singles matches and will play at No. 3. Cielo, who has 56 career singles victories, including a team-high 19 this season, will play at No. 4. Huey, who was 16-5 in singles, will play at No. 5, and Huff, who has won seven of her last 10 matches, will play at No. 6.
The winner of Harding and Southern Arkansas will play in the semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Henderson State outdoor courts against the winner of #3 East Central and #6 Henderson State.
The championship match will be Saturday, Apr. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Ouachita Baptist outdoor courts.
