Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – It was extra bases versus left on base for the Harding baseball team Tuesday in a 9-4 non-conference victory over Henderson State.
Harding (23-19) hit two home runs in a game for the first time this season and added six doubles, while Henderson State (21-19) had 18 hits but left 14 runners on base.
Senior
Chase Presley, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, hit his second home run of the season to give Harding a 2-0 lead in the third. Sophomore
Matt Calhoun went 3-for-4, scored twice, drove in three, and hit his team-leading fourth home run in the seventh inning. Junior
Billy Ninemire had three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice.
Harding had four doubles in their three-run sixth inning with Calhoun,
Anthony Guglielmi,
Paul Anzalone, and
Shane Kinnear all hitting two-baggers.
Alex Smith (1-1) collected his first win since April 12, 2011, by going six innings and allowing three earned runs despite yielding 13 hits. Harding's defense turned three double plays behind Smith, who made his fifth start of the season.
Anthony Gilliland (0-1) took the loss for Henderson State, allowing five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Harding returns to Great American Conference play Saturday and Sunday with a three-game series at Southeastern Oklahoma State.
