RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding baseball will play its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday when they meet the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys at 6 p.m. at Tech Field.
Harding (24-21) will look for its first win in four games against Arkansas Tech this season. The Wonder Boys swept three Great American Conference games from the Bisons on April 13-14.
A couple of Harding hitters enjoyed success against Arkansas Tech in those first three games. Junior shortstop
Gabe Fyock was 6-for-11 (.545) with an RBI, and junior third baseman
Billy Ninemire hit .364 with three doubles and four RBI.
Harding catcher
Tyler Stanford has also performed well at the plate recently. The sophomore has the second-highest on-base percentage on the team (.397) and has reached base in 10 straight games.
Senior
Chase Presley leads Harding with 27 runs scored this season and has 170 in his four-year career at Harding. He is only one run away from tying the school record set by Daryl Johnson from 1993-96. Presley is also fifth with 211 career hits and is chasing down career leader Justin Cone (2002-05), who holds the record at 219.
Senior
Alex Smith will make his sixth start of the season and his first career start against Tech. In his career, Smith has only pitched to two Tech hitters, allowing a hit and recording an out in a relief appearance in 2009.
Smith started last Tuesday against Henderson State and earned his first win of the season. He allowed 13 hits but only three earned runs in six innings.
Arkansas Tech (24-22) is coming off a three-game home sweep against East Central in Russellville. The Wonder Boys have the best offense in the GAC and are averaging 7.3 runs.
