SEARCY – Harding men's soccer has one more game before it dives headlong into its MIAA conference schedule. The Bisons (2-1-0) play the first of four straight road games Wednesday in non-conference action against Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. The game begins at 3 p.m.
Harding is off to its best three-game start since the 2001 season and is seeking its second straight road victory to open the season.
One key to Harding's early success has been the play of its defense, specifically freshman goalkeeper
Chase Keeney. He leads the MIAA with a 0.68 goals against average and is second with a .800 save percentage.
Harding's offense has come from numerous sources thus far, with five different players scoring the Bisons' five goals. Harding also has five different players with assists. Only sophomore
Shea McGee and junior
Ryan Wilhelm have a goal and an assist this season.
The Bisons have done all their damage in the second half of games this season. All five Harding goals have come after halftime, and the Bisons are outshooting their opponents 31-7 in the second half.
Lyon enters the game with a 1-1-1 record. The Scots, members of the NAIA American Midwest Conference, played to a 0-0 tie against Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday.
Harding and Lyon will be playing for the ninth time with the Scots leading the series 5-3. Harding has won once in four meetings in Batesville, a 5-0 victory in 2006.
After the Lyon game, Harding goes on the road for its first three games in MIAA play. The Bisons play at Northeastern State (9/15), Southern Nazarene (9/20), and Fort Hays State (9/22) before returning to Searcy to meet Central Baptist in a non-conference game on Sept. 25.
