HU Men's Basketball Falls at Arkansas-Monticello

The Bisons dropped into a second-place tie in the GAC standings.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Harding scored only three field goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half and fell 78-61 to Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday in Great American Conference action at Steelman Fieldhouse.

Harding (18-8, 11-7) lost its fourth straight on the road and fell one game behind Arkansas Tech, who defeated Southern Arkansas on Saturday to retake the top spot in the conference standings. Harding and Arkansas Tech meet Thursday in Russellville.

Arkansas-Monticello (16-8, 11-7) moved into a second-place tie with Harding with the victory and extended its winning streak to five games.

Harding tied the game 19-19 on a Matt Walters' jumper with 10:47 left in the first half. Arkansas-Monticello outscored Harding 19-6 the rest of the half and held a 38-25 halftime lead. The Boll Weevils scored extended the run with a 9-0 start to the second half and led 47-25 with 18:04 left.

Bison freshman Andraz Kavas ended the run with two free throws, Harding's first two attempted in the game. The Bisons made a season-low five free throws.

Harding trailed by as many as 23 points in the second half. A 12-0 run that started with a Zach Roddenberry jumper with 10:55 left and concluded with a Roddenberry layup at the 7:01 mark cut the UAM lead to 57-50.

The Boll Weevils answered with a 14-0 run that put the game away.

Roddenberry, Hayden Johnson and Adam Sterrenberg each had 10 points to lead Harding.

Kori Forge made six 3-pointers and led Arkansas-Monticello with 27 points.
